“Hitchcock” Stars Show Off Their To-Die-For Clutches

Nov 28 2012

Celebrating the limited release of Hitchcock in the U.S., the cast of the film graced the red carpet premiere held recently while showing off their killer styles at the  Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, California.  Hitchcock is a welcome break from all the slasher flicks we’re seeing of late and we can’t wait to catch it in theaters. The movie is a bio-drama that focuses on what went on behind the scenes during the making of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic suspense thriller Psycho.

Back to our red carpet review, we chose our favorite celebrity looks that feature clutches to die for:

Seeing red. We won’t scream bloody murder at Toni Collette’s fashion choice because she looked ravishing in red. The actress wore a sleek one-shoulder Alex Perry Pre-Fall 2013 dress and accessorized with Jerome C. Rousseau Kier nude peep toes and a KOTUR Espey snakeskin minaudiere. What made her clutch pop? Her three gold cuff bracelets which complemented her bag perfectly. TIP: See her clutch here in a different color.

Drop dead gorgeous. Newlywed Jessica Biel left us breathless with her black Gucci gown featuring a frilly front and backless cut. It was a better option compared to her love to hate red carpet look in another Hitchcock premiere. For accessories, Mrs. Timberlake chose Sergio Rossi heels, Jennifer Meyer jewels and a yellow and white Fendi clutch. TIP: See the clutch from Fendi’s Resort 2013 collection here.

Femme fatale. Fast-rising teen star Claudia Lee came to the event in a heart-stopping, figure-hugging lilac Bird dress by Juicy Couture with scarf detail, Vince Camuto shoes and a snakeskin Onyx clutch from the same designer. TIP: You can purchase a similar Vince Camuto Onyx clutch at Piperlime.

Breathtaking opulence. Dame Helen Mirren was resplendent in a lavish Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2012 black lace dress. The ensemble was a picture of luxury with its gold embroidery around the hem, cuffs, waist and neckline. The award-winning actress chose Lily peep-toe pumps and a Miss Sicily mini clutch as accessories. Both are also from D&G . TIP: Looking for a mini Miss Sicily clutch? Find one at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Want to channel the stars’ killer style? We’ve got some clutch suggestions at prices that won’t make you faint:

The Man Bag: Love it or Hate it?

Nov 26 2012

Clutch bags and totes are not only popular among women;  more and more men are now seen carrying them. Showcased on the runways and even on the streets, modern bags for men called man bags, manly totes, mlutch (man+clutch) and murses (man+purse) are probably here to stay.

Even a few celebrities and NBA superstars have been spotted clutching bags while attending various events in recent years. Here are a few:

Robert Downey Jr. and guests attend World Premiere of “Get Rich Or Die Tryin “, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Los Angeles, California- 02.11.05

Is Robert Downey, Jr. carrying his wife’s purse…or his own? This I couldn’t tell but I’ve got an inkling it’s his because of the bag’s utilitarian style (note the keychain that holds maybe his car keys).

Jude Law leaving Wyndham’s Theatre, London, England – 28.05.09

Jude Law was spotted carrying a slim brown leather briefcase with a short handle. Did he store his scripts inside?

Chris Eubank leaving Claridges Hotel in London, England – 12.04.10

Former middleweight champ Chris Eubank shows how manly a clutch can be as he was seen carrying a Louis Vuitton leather clutch.

Marc Jacobs at The British Fashion Awards 2011,  Savoy, London, England – 28.11.11

Designer Marc Jacobs carries a murse at a fashion event. Nice accent to a smart and sleek suit.

Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Beso restaurant in Hollywood Los Angeles, California – 15.06.09

Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo gets a kick out of wearing his Gucci murse.

So, what’s your take on murses? Do you like them or loathe them? Personally, I don’t mind because of their practicality and functionality. Clutch bags have been around for centuries and carried by fashion-forward European and Japanese men. These holdalls also add a debonair touch to a man’s look. It depends on the style, material and quality, though.

If you’re looking for a clutch or even a handbag to give to your guy especially now that the holidays are fast approaching, we have a few manly suggestions:

Fossil Estate Leather Framed Travel Kit, $80

Boconi Bags and Leather Collins Calf Plaid About You – Zip Traveler, $115

Alexander McQueen Day Bag, $954.99 (Sold Out)

Fossil Edition Leather Carpenter Bag, $398 (Sold Out)

We’ll be keeping a close watch on this trend and let you know some of our new finds. Would your guy wear a man bag?

A Night of Music, Fashion & Luxe Clutches at the 2012 AMAs

Nov 20 2012

Fashion and music truly go hand in hand as witnessed in the recently concluded 2012 American Music Awards 40th Anniversary held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. It was also a night of stunning performances by Pink, Taylor Swift, No Doubt and Korean sensation Psy with MC Hammer (surprise, surprise!).

As one would expect from watching too many red carpet arrivals, the entrance of the entertainment venue was filled with celebrities and music artists all dressed in gorgeous creations that were awards night-perfect. A few stars went empty-handed (read: no clutch in hand) but quite a few wore some really fancy clutches. Here are our picks:

Carly Rae Jepsen

The singer and AMA 2012 New Artist of the Year looked adorable in her sequined Gomez-Gracia halter dress which she accessorized with Brian Atwood shoes and a nude pearlescent Edie Parker clutch.

Carly Steel

Next on our list is another Carly. The actress and host carried an embellished Paola Graglia baguette which we really, really love. She also wore the same clutch to the Valentino Rodeo Drive Flagship store opening this year.

Carrie Underwood

The country superstar, who also won Favorite Country Album for “Blown Away”, literally blew us away with her sparkly floor-grazing gown in purple and embellished with sequins. She matched her gown with a gold Jill Milan clutch called the 450 Sutter.

Christina Aguilera

I have mixed feelings about The Voice judge’s dress — a lilac Pamella Roland creation. Still, Christina chose the right accessories to complement it: Jimmy Choo shoes, Neil Lane jewelry and a beaded crystal Judith Leiber minaudiere.

Elisha Cuthbert

The Happy Endings star was radiant in a sequined Georges Chakra strapless gown which she matched with a clutch in an opposite color: a Jimmy Choo Tube with sparkling glitter.

Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer looked like a life-sized doll with her pixie hair, pink Oscar de la Renta dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, and Radiant Cut Crystal Minaudiere by Judith Leiber.

Hayden Panettiere

Hayden always seems to be on the right note with her red carpet looks. Here, the Nashville star is seen wearing a white sequined Armani dress paired with satin Giuseppe Zanotti platform peep toes and matched with a Giorgio Armani Origami Clutch in velvet and satin.

Hillary Scott

Winning the Favorite Country Band/Group/Duo award together with her band Lady Antebellum, Hillary truly looked like a winner in her LBD with puffed sleeves, plus a Giuseppe Zanotti metallic clutch.

Lucy Hale

The Pretty Little Liars star deserves a kiss with her simple yet striking getup featuring an Elizabeth and James black dress, Brian Atwood shoes, and a classic Lulu Guinness lips clutch.

Stacy Keibler

The leggy Stacy Keibler sure knows how to show off her best assets in a beaded Collette Dinnigan dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, and a black Judith Leiber East-West leather clutch.
