Rachel Bilson’s Sunglass Hut Purse: The Marni Top Handle Mini Handbag

May 9 2010

Guess who the new Sunglass Hut ambassador is? Yup, it’s Rachel Bilson. The young actress was spotted arriving in New York last April 28, as she was scheduled to attend the launch of Sunglass Hut’s flagship store to be held the following day (April29).

On both days, Rachel was spotted carrying a tiny white frame top handle that turned out to be a Marni creation. I guess she decided to use it in place of the usual clutch; which then brings me to the reason why I’m writing this article.

A tiny purse like Rachel’s Marni is a good alternative to the clutch. It can actually be considered as an oversized clutch.

I checked the Marni website to do more research on the bag but I couldn’t find the exact same bag there. I did find something similar, the Zip Bag.  Rachel’s bag most likely comes from a previous collection.

Marni Zip Bag (small), US$1,575

If you like the Marni bag, you can buy it from the Marni website for US$1575. Now if you don’t want to spend that much on a small bag, then go for these oversized frame clutches with handles instead:

Stewart Weitzman Metalist, US$650

CC Skye Lulu Day, US$599

These two are not cheap, but both are far more affordable than the Marni!

Hot to Have: Clutch Bags with Floral Appliqués

May 7 2010

I saw this photo taken by photoblogger Tommy Ton and thought how precise he was in capturing one of spring’s must haves – clutch bags with floral appliqués.

Floral appliqués are not only invading clutch bags this season, but sandals as well.

I guess it is just as well, a flower in bloom is the perfect symbol for spring after all.  That plus the fact that a clutch with a flower appliqué on it holds a  feminine and sweet charm that appeals to most women.

If you want to go with the flow, check out Jessica McClintock’s line of clutches. This brand has a lot of styles that come with appliques on it. And it’s affordable too!

For other options, try the following:

Clutches by Mischa Barton

May 3 2010

I have always wondered what ever happened to the once “It” girl Mischa Barton? I used to follow her when The O.C. was still airing. I was actually a fan. But she sort of deteriorated when the show ended. Her once interesting sense of style became trashy and lowbrow. I felt sorry for her. But guess what? Not anymore! When I realized that she actually has been busy with a line of well-designed handbags, I decided to cut her some slack.

Made me wonder though if the bags were really designed by her or she just sold her name to a handbag company? Whatever the case may be, she must have had a say as to which bags her name should be stamped on, right?

To give you a preview of the Mischa Barton line, here are some clutches I find interesting.

Delilah Clutch

Emblem Clutch

Ziggy Clutch

Oscar Purse

Ella Bow Clutch

Aside from clutches, she also has a good selection of satchels, totes, and other handbags. And the prices are pocket friendly too! The only drawback I see though is that it seems like its only sold in the UK. But fret not, I found an online shop retailing Mischa Barton’s handbag line that ships to the U.S, and overseas. Fine Creation: DSQUARED2 Bug Clutch

May 3 2010

I think I’m in love…

The object of my affection? The DSQUARED2 Bug Clutch in Silver.

DSQUARED2 Bug Clutch in Silver

It is quite a fine creation to behold. I love how the silver tone metal shines yet doesn’t overpower, very easy on the eyes and very classy.

My favorite part is of course, the crystal encrusted swarm of bugs and flowers scattered on the clutch. The whole thing looks very rare, delicate, fragile, and luxurious – like a fine china that must be handled with care.

And look, even the inside looks exquisite.

This is definitely a one of a kind piece worthy to be worn only on those very special occasions.

The only setback is that it costs more than I can afford. It retails for US$1,299.

If you are lucky enough to afford it, you can shop for it at Zappos.com.
