Jennifer Lopez at the World Music Awards, Too Much or Just Right?

Jul 3 2010

I think JLo has special powers that some other celebrities don’t. The lady can rock even the scariest of outfits and get away with it. But I also think there are some things even her special powers can’t handle.

Take for example, when she attended the World Music Awards in Monaco last May. The Latina singer and actress went to the event in a daringly sexy split front leopard printed long number by Roberto Cavalli:

With the dress alone, I think she was able to rock it, despite the fact that we’ve already seen her wear a similar one before (a Versace).  But the turning point for  her outfit was the accessory she paired it with – a snakeskin Daniel Swarovski clutch. What do you think of the pairing? Too much, or just right?

Well, personally, like I said, JLo can handle scary things. But I think wearing two scary (exotic) things at the same time was a little bit too much for her. A classic black  or charcoal gray clutch would have done the trick:

(Top) Jessica McClintock Satin Pleated Clutch, on sale for US$37; (Left) Jessica McClintock Satin Pleated w/ Rhinestone Clutch, on sale for US$17; (Right) Jessica McClintock Satin Rhinstone Clutch, on sale for US$21

As for her Daniel Swarovski snakeskin clutch, there was really nothing wrong with it. That clutch would have looked great and stood out rightfully as a statement piece had she worn a much more subdued and solid number, like a black dress for instance.

Emmanuelle Chriqui Style High at Entourage Premiere

Jul 1 2010

HBO’s big hit Entourage is coming out with the much awaited Season 7. The stars sizzled at the Hollywood Premiere last week and all eyes were on Emmanuelle Chriqui. She was hotness personified in a classic black and white ensemble with a twist.

The white dress remains to be a mystery and a debate topic whether it was hot or not. I would say the dress was complicated (check out the back) but it didn’t really matter as she pulled it off just right.

The perplexing dress aside, Emmanuelle’s interesting accessories also deserve our attention. Her pumps were adorned with bows and her oversized clutch generously studded:

For a while I thought oversized studded clutches are a thing of the past, but I guess not! Emmanualle did a sort of resuscitation of a dying trend. And I’m relieved! Most of us may be getting tired of all things studded but I am not over oversized clutches. I scoured my fave online stores and found these:

Alexander McQueen Quilted Clutch, $509 from $899

Rafe New York Erin Flap Clutch, $247 from $354

Botkier Jetson Clutch, $197 from $325

Nine West Zip Clutch, $48 from $69

All of these clutch beauties are over 12 inches in width. They’re not only fabulous for night, they’re big enough for day use too! And they are all on sale. Now, what more can you ask for?

Olivia Palermo Mixes Ruffles and Fringes

Jun 30 2010

The City star Olivia Palermo attended the Operation Smile Annual Gala last May 7 in this attire:

Olivia Palermo, 2010 Operation Smile’s Annual Gala New York City, May 6, 2010

What do you think of her ensemble? Do you think the purple fringe mini bag goes with the tiered ruffle dress? What can you say about her shoes?

If you ask me, the purple fringe mini bag isn’t that bad. But the pieces she combined it with are a little off. It’s like she was trying to channel boho and flapper at the same time, but missed getting both.

The shoes are definitely wrong; the dress is too long, and with the fringe mini bag, the whole look becomes a little overdone. Well, at least that’s what I think.

Care to share your two cents on her attire?

On another note, if you’re into fringe mini purses that double up as evening bags like Olivia here, you can try these pieces. But please, don’t wear it with ruffles.

Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth: Boxes for Derek Blasberg’s Book Launch

Jun 26 2010

Last month (May 6), Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth, two very stylish young celebs, hosted a book launch party (along with Missoni) for Derek Blasberg, friend and author of  the book, CLASSY: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady.

The duo attended the event sporting their unique signature style – Nicole with her boho chic Missoni maxi dress, and Kate with her clean and classic shirred cutout number. Check out the pictures here.

Despite being totally different in style preference, both ladies opted for the box clutch to go with their look. Nicole’s was a vintage looking burgundy piece that matched her colorful dress while Kate’s was a classic gold with blue accents.

It’s interesting how these two have something in common when they are so fashionably different. But it is quite understandable. The box clutch is after all, one of the best pieces you can bring with you to classy and dressy gatherings such as a book launch party for a book called CLASSY.

If you were given a choice, whose star style would you go for?

If you’re more into Nicole Richie’s boho style, these box clutches are yours:

From top (clockwise): Dan W Chevron Minaudiere, US$180; Elie Tahari Bejeweled Kimberly Clutch, on sale for US$173; Inge Christopher Silk Minaudiere, US$150

A Kate? Then you will like these:

From top (clockwise): Carlo Fellini Telma Clutch, on sale for US$80; Elie Tahari Kimberly Clutch, US$202; Whiting and Davis Chunky Crystal Box Clutch, US$190

Also, with the book being titled CLASSY, who do you think among the two looks the part?
