Tyra Banks: A Ball Clutch and a Spidey Mask for the Vogue’s 90th Anniversary Party

Oct 17 2010

Tyra Banks got some good attention when she attended the Vogue 90th Anniversary Party that took place late last month. The supermodel and TV host took the arrival floor (yup, there was no carpet) to a whole new level when she paired her black Roberto Cavalli beaded strapless gown with a spidey looking fishnet mask.

I admit, the spidey mask looks fierce and quite a show-stopper, but I also find the tiny ball shaped purse hanging on her wrist quite intriguing. Here’s a closer look at that purse:

Tyra’s Ball Shaped Clutch

Isn’t it cute? I like how perfectly round it looks.  The shape is not very common among evening bags, but once you wear it, attention will surely come to you. I couldn’t find any information on its origin but if you like the concept, you can do better by grabbing this Fur Ball Clutch from Christian Louboutin.  It’s so much better looking with its natural mink fur material:

It is quite pricey, running at a really heavy $1395. If spending that much for a small piece of accessory is too much, go for these very affordable round or oval evening purses instead:

Sarah Jessica Parker: A Mini Hobo for a Clutch?

Oct 14 2010

This is another SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker) post. I’m sorry but I can’t help  but write about her. I like her style. Today however, is a little different.

The Sex and the City star attended the New York City Ballet Fall Gala last week and although her Halston Heritage nude glittering gown was a hit, I was a little confused as to why she opted to carry a dark mini hobo bag as her purse of choice for the night.

She totally had me scratching my head right there…I mean, why didn’t she opt for a clutch instead?

Doesn’t it bother you? Because I find the mix a little off.

The purse is from Halston Heritage.  Here’s a product shot from Shopbop so you can get a better look:

Granted that the purse is made of some dressy metal mesh material, but don’t you think the hobo shape is a little too casual for the gown? If pushing the brand  (Halston) was the objective, she could have just used this piece instead:

Oh well, I guess she wanted something different. But what do you think? Was carrying that hobo purse fashionable for the Fall Gala?

Red-Haired Rihanna Wears the Alexander McQueen Glove Clutch

Oct 10 2010

I swear, I think only Rihanna can pull off having hair as red as hers. It’s literally flaming! The pop singer was spotted late last month leaving the Trump Soho Hotel looking chic and stylish in tones of black and gray.

I’m very glad she kept her wardrobe colorless and classic because that red hair is already quite a statement on its own. Ri-Ri paired her black coated jeans with a gray chambray shirt and capped it off with a printed scarf, Lanvin pumps, and the ever-striking ever functional Alexander McQueen Glove Clutch:

What’s your two cents on Ri-Ri’s style?

Rihanna aside, I can truly appreciate how the late great McQueen thought up of ways to help a lady carry the clutch besides putting a strap on it. Remember the McQueen knuckle hardcase we spotted on Kendra Wilkinson? I consider that a great McQueen invention. This, is another one.

If you like the idea and you don’t mind spending at least US$799, you can grab a McQueen Glove Clutch for yourself by visiting Zappos. They have it in four (4) colors:

Each contains an element that makes it very au courant, yet at the same time, still classic enough to last beyond the season. Wear any of these purses and you’re guaranteed to look fashionable.

Trend: Lace

Lace is hot on dresses this season, have it on your clutch as well with this piece from Glint

Trend: Fringes

Fringes are hot on boots this fall. If you don’t want to wear it on your feet, how about making a statement with it using your bag.

Tory Burch Sawla Fringe Clutch, US$350 (Nordstrom.com)

Trend: Studs

We’re not sure if we should still call it a trend. It has been hot on bags season after season. Maybe it’s because we simply can’t get enough of the rocker/biker chic look. Here’s a clutch to go with that.

Diane Von Furstenberg Philomena Clutch, US$425 (NeimanMarcus.com)

Trend: Animal Print / Exotic Skin

We intentionally did not pick out something with leopard on it. Instead, we opted for this reddish crocodile embossed clutch. Given how classic it looks, it will last longer in your closet.
