What do these ladies have in common? Quite obviously, they like donning white or cream but it’s what they have in their hands that got us buzzing. Three ladies who happen to be style stars in their own rights, in three different occasions, chose to carry a silver box clutch with a predominantly white ensemble.

Rachel McAdams did a chic appearance in New York recently donning a refreshingly blue and cream outfit topped off with a silver box clutch. Kate Bekinsale wowed us at the Golden Globes in a gorgeous Cavalli confection complete with yet another silver box clutch that’s almost mirror-like. And at the Nevada Ballet Theater’s Black and White Ball, Robin Antin was a stunner in a cream-colored Grecian number accessorized with a boxy silver clutch.

Certainly silver box clutches are nothing new but after seeing these ladies, it seem to be the clutch du jour. I looked around for pieces we can snap up without hurting our wallets and these babies have easily made the cut.

Cute is an understatement for actress Emma Stone. For me, she looked like a fun, flirty and fab young lady in her tea-length black ruffle and lace dress by Alexander McQueen plus matching clutch and flower embellished black peep-toe ankle strap pumps, also by Alexander McQueen. It suits her persona to a tee!

Her McQueen clutch was customized for the dress, the same black lace (as her dress) is used to cover the bag. The iconic skull can be found at the center of the intricate gold knuckle (this time it’s crowned), and is embellished with colored gemstones. On both sides are unicorns pointing to the skull’s crown. This must be one pricey little McQueen number.

The cast of The Help, where Emma played a curious journalist, received the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award. The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was held at The Shrine Auditorium last January 29, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.

Cameron Diaz hit a high fashion note when she arrived at the Valentino fashion show during Paris Couture Week on January 25. Clad in a short cream Valentino button front lace dress, the 40-year old actress looked youthful despite her age.

There were speculations that Diaz underwent various cosmetic procedures before the fashion event, but that remains to be confirmed. Her skin was exceptionally radiant and glowing — perhaps that was what sparked the intrigues!

She paired her dainty frock with a pair of nude pumps from Christian Louboutin and a pretty pink snakeskin clutch embellished with pearls. The look was fresh, young, demure and ultra feminine and thanks to her good genes (great skin, great body), Diaz pulled it off effortlessly.

Olivia Palermo has been one to watch: she keeps showing up in stylish ensembles that send waves of statements. At the recent Dior Haute Couture show in Paris last January 23, Palermo sported skinny black leather pants, black booties and a cream caftan blouse with a V hem. Her pop of color was a bright blue Dior velvet embellished clutch, her statement jewelry was a gorgeous chain link necklace in gold and corsage cuff.

Yet I find these red clutches interesting enough to be blog-worthy not only because their color is still in but also because they are not your usual beaded, studded or embellished clutches. Instead, they are too simple… and their simplicity makes them quite stunning!

Don’t let Angie’s clutch fool you, though. It might look nondescript but it is actually a custom-dyed Christian Louboutin evening bag that rings in at more than a thousand dollars! Her draped Versace gown is a WOW on her toned bod. I’m not surprised by this look at all — nothing frilly and fancy but only the classic and elegant. Definitely an Angelina Jolie signature style.

Named the “Pharaoh” clutch, it actually comes from the designer’s 2009 Spring Collection and features an origami style flap closure. Of course with the signature red lining. Angie didn’t have to look far and wide to find the perfect red satin clutch in the exact hue of the accent on her dress. A legendary designer for a legendary Hollywood star (never mind if she’s a smug on camera)!

Meanwhile, Natalie Portman carried a satin clutch in a deeper shade of red, the color matching the top fold on her bustier style dress. In an ocean of beiges, creams, blush pinks and whites, Portman’s gown by Lanvin was a smashing standout. In contrasting colors of what could have been called as bad taste on the color wheel coordinates, Portman makes a gorgeous exception. Going against the rules can be a powerful statement!

Portman’s framed clutch, also from Lanvin, is pretty much smaller than Angie’s. We can’t help noticing her other arm candies:  fine jewels by Harry Winston. Recall: Natalie Portman won the Best Actress title for her role in The Black Swan last year.

The 69th Golden Globes red carpet is still working on as I write this. There’s a lot of eye candies as well as arm candies worth writing about but I couldn’t help but start off with Zooey Deschanel all decked out in Prada.

The actress arrived at the venue with sister Emily beside her. Looking quite excited with her “Best Actress” nomination for TV series “New Girl,” the free-spirited actress came in an art-deco inspired frock with “tuxedo” painted nails!

Moving on to her choice of a purse which I think is a little too matchy-matchy, never mind that it’s Prada. At least her dress was on the unexpected side so with a clutch coming a little safe is.. let’s say.. forgiven. I just think it would have been more interesting to pair that gorgeous dress with any of the these:

Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev arrived at the red carpet of the 2012 People’s Choice Awards last January 11 in an emerald green sheath dress by Elie Saab. The rising Hollywood star (one of the most popular in the recent polls) looked stunning in the dress, a pencil-cut mini with sheer laced sleeves that she matched with strappy T wedges and a nude clutch.

Among all other evening clutches, this Lauren Merkin piece caught my attention most! The rounded design is unconventional, that’s why! In a stream of box, animal print, metallic and satin clutches in traditional shapes, Dobrev’s was a refreshing sight.

The same clutch can be purchased at ShopBop but the nude version is no longer available. Instead, the Metallic Snake Champagne (which is closely similar) is offered at the site for 50% off the regular price! What do you think of that?

The Duchess of Cambridge never disappoints in her clothing taste, Princess Diana would have been proud of her son’s choice. Although Middleton is known to like bargains (she buys some of her coats and dresses from retail store Zara), she actually really gets away with wearing an outfit that doesn’t cost thousands of dollars. It is rumored that the Queen dislikes the idea of her cheap shopping sprees (perhaps it is un-royal?). For me what matters most is how well she carries a $150 dollar dress and make it look royal enough.

Why is it that Angelina doesn’t surprise me with her get-up at all? I have been watching the star’s style for months now and the only thing I am certain about her fashion sense is this: she goes for simple, classic cuts in solid neutral colors. Her favorite accessories are her to-die-for emeralds of which she owns several stunning pieces. I absolutely heart Angie’s style! (Not to mention her hunk of a husband).

Let’s do a little inspection on her mostly leather ensemble. The soft silk blouse is the perfect choice for her black leather skirt, pumps and clutch because it gives the much needed feminine touch on the whole outfit. Look at those killer heels! They def add an edge, those slim silver stilettos scream unconventional. For color, she chose the emerald pendant necklace and matching stud earrings.

Now the clutch: it is a classic black leather envelope design, nice but rather inconspicuous. A statement clutch would have been far more interesting. But knowing Angie’s style, she would go for the inconspicuous any day. For versatility and use, I give the clutch a thumbs up.
